I spent a happy morning putting together these boxes for my sewing space and I'm really pleased with them. I had some tartan scraps fabric for ages from a pattern book (0 cost and 0

I added some lace trim to this one as a little detail. They can be made to any size, I would use fabrics with a little more body in (I used this tartan curtaining fabric with just a plain cream lining) If you use normal weight cotton fabrics you will probably need to stiffen it with interfacing. You could put card in the bottom and the sides if you wanted it to stand up really straight but I like the way they mould to the fabrics and bits inside. Heres how you make them. Enjoy and don't forget to comment below. Love Sewsanna x

You will need

Fabric scraps depending on the size of the box. See below .

x 2 squares x 2 oblong pieces 4 times the sides of your square plus 1 cm

These can be made to any size.

With right sides together and the side of the box fabric on top of the sqare under the machine stitch the whole way round the bottom of the box. Leave the needle in at each corner so that you can reposition the side box piece neatly round each corner. It feels a bit awkward but don't worry it will come together.

Now stitch the side of the box but remember to leave a gap in the side seam. Whoops I forgot! between the two marked crosses. You will need this for turning the box inside out.

Now repeat the same process with the outside fabric but this time you can sew the whole of the side seam up! Turn one box the right way round. (can you see that I also started sewing round the bottom in the middle of one of the sides of the square this will also make it easier, you wont have to much bulk on one corner when you turn it inside out).

Now put the one turned the right way round inside the one turned the wrong way round.

Now go back to the machine and stitch the whole way round the top of your box.

I took the plate off my machine to give me a narrow arm which is easier to get the box onto.

Now you will have two boxes each end and a hole to turn your box round the right way. Turn it insde out and push the lining into the outside. push out the corners and roll the top of the seam so you can get it as neat as you can, give it a press.

Enjoy your lovely fabric box. Love Sewsanna x
