What do I need to bring to class?

You will need a box or basket with the items below:

You can gradually build up your sewing kit but these are the bits and bobs you will definately need to bring with you.

  • Small scissors or "snips".

  • A pair of good large dressmaking scissors. These are a good investment but need to be kept entirely separate, and used for fabric only.

  • Thread - various colours. You can build up a selection, but black and white to start with are always a good bet. Try to buy good quality thread.

  • Pins (glass headed ones are best in case you iron over them).

  • A tape measure.

  • Tailors chalk or dressmaking water soluble pen.

  • Hand sewing needles in various sizes.

  • Machine needles in various sizes to fit your machine.

Your sewing machine

You will need your machine in good working order and I recommend you get it serviced. If you are concerned about it. I do have some machines available to hire but you will need to check availabilty.

Fabrics and notions

I willl send you a list of the fabrics and sundries (i.e zips, buttons, interfacing etc) that you will need to obtain before your class. I will provide fabric scraps to practice on and calico for small samples. Unless stated you will need to provide (and bring) all the materials for the projects you are making.
