Freqently Asked Questions.

Do I need my own sewing machine?

Yes its a good idea for you to have your own machine and to get to really know it and make friends!. It also means you can practice at home. If you are not sure you want to buy one yet, you can hire one from me but you will need to check availabilty.

What do I need to bring?

Can you tell me a bit more about your beginners course please?

  • We meet for 6 weeks (normallly during term time)

  • Depending on your starting point I will help you choose some suitable projects to work on. If you are a complete beginner I suggest you start with a simple bag and cushion cover before you start on anything more ambitious.

  • There are dressmaking options but I suggest to get to know your machine first with small projects.

  • Each week I do a demonstration of a sewing technique its up to you to decide if you want to practice this or work on your chosen project.

  • 6 weeks will fly by and you will need to practice at home, if you want to be able to complete more than one thing. Good sewing takes time but with practice you will improve and shapes for pattern pieces will become more familiar as will sewing terms. Quite a few of my beginners have returned to do the classes for a second time or I have extended the course if you wish to continue. If you do decide to be a returnee I offer a discount of £10.

  • Its a really good way to get to know new people and make new friends.

  • Tea,coffee and home-made cake is a vital ingredient each week.

  • There is a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 8 in a beginners class, so there is always plenty of time for sewing support for each sewist.

  • You need to bring all your materials I will send you a list before we start.
