How to do a tailors tack

Hi tailors tacks are really useful when you come to sew your garment together and here is how to do one.

Identify the pattern markings. For example here is a waist band the pattern has been placed on the fold, so there is a double layer of fabric.

I have shown you on a small piece of felt to make it easier to see but you would make a small stitch through the paper and all the layers of fabric with a double thread.

Go back through the same stitch and all the layers paper and fabric to make a loop. Cut the thread.

Here is the tailors tack back on the paper pattern you now need to pull apart the layers so you can snip inbetween the fabric layers like below but don't cut the loop yet.

Now you can snip the top loop and remove the paper.

Hey presto you have marked all you layers of fabric and you can easily remove the tack once you have finished sewing.

Hope you find this helpful. Happy stitching, Sewsanna
